As well as our annual June event, we hold various beach blitz events throughout the year to target identified litter hotspots around the Scottish coast. In April 2022 we successfully removed 75m3 of marine detritus off the Isle of Ulva over one weekend. Email kerrie@balancedhorizon.org to get involved with any of our beach cleans.
Our Coastal Cleanup events are multi-day beach cleanups dedicated to clearing rubbish from marine litter hotspots. We work alongside local communities and beach cleaning groups to restore these areas together. If you’re interested in volunteering at these events or joining one of our other beach cleans, head to our Volunteer with Us page to learn more!

The success of these events is down to working with individuals and community groups who have local knowledge in an area. If you beach clean in an area that is hard to reach by land we have a boat and team of volunteers available that can help remove gathered rubbish back to the mainland or a more accessible area. We have partnered with Ocean Plastic Pots who recycled the rope and netting gathered during our cleans into a range of beautiful plant pots. You can see the pot made from our Ulva beach clean here.
Or, if you know of any coastal areas that are particularly badly affected by litter that would benefit from having a team of volunteers carry out a beach blitz then drop an email to kerriesccu@balancedhorizon.org
