You can donate to our 24hr sponsored beach clean on our Just Giving page here.
You may remember the photos of the awful plastic pollution we found on the Isle of Skye. During our time on the island we were focused on removing the huge piles of rigid plastic present. Skye Beach Cleans had been busy cleaning the island before our arrival to maximise the use of the boat when we arrived. However, the huge tangled mass of plastic ropes and netting has been weighing on our minds, it covered the entire beach and is 1.5 – 2 ft deep! We knew we had to do something about it to restore this beautiful cove back to it’s former state.
Marine Plastic Removal By Boat
We are also trying to raise money to buy a landing craft type boat at the moment. This will be used to work alongside Stroma A, our larger boat that we use to transport all the litter gathered back to the mainland for recycling and disposal.
The landing craft will be able to access much shallower waters, allowing volunteers to clean the more remote locations.
It will also be used to transport the marine detritus gathered from the shores out to Stroma A for removal.
24 Hour Beach Clean
So, we thought what better way to get the beach cleaned and to raise funds than by completing a 24hr beach clean event! We will be returning to Skye for the marathon clean up session running over the 7-8th of July. We will have a team from the Scottish Coastal Clean Up there for the 24 hours, and will be joined by other volunteers for shorter stints throughout the clean.
If you would like to get involved in the whole 24 hour clean or for a shorter time please contact email@example.com.
We are so grateful for any donation you are able to make to our 24hr sponsored beach clean event. The easiest way is through the Just Giving page we have set up – https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sccu.
